While reading an article recently, I was much saddened to find that the obesity rate in our children is not getting better, but yet it, unfortunately, seems to be getting worse.
With all of the education and options at our fingertips, we in America should be the healthiest of all nations, yet it seems we are quite far from it.
One very disheartening fact stated in this article is the one highest area of increase is that of 2-5-year-olds. What?! It seems that our habits of convenience and technology are showing their weight on our little ones and the negative impact may be more significant than we can even see at the moment.
It was also stated in this article that if the trend continues that the obesity rate is sure to shorten the life expectancy in the U.S. as well as bankrupt the health care system due to the skyrocketing disease rate caused by this increase.
So what are we going to do about it? Well, let’s get the technology out of the hands of these little guys and get them moving. Let’s bring back the days of hours spent using our imaginations and creativity, running thru the outdoor, playing in creeks, neighborhood games of hide-n-seek and capture the flag, riding bikes and blacktop basketball.
I know our lives are busy, and the drive-thru is convenient, but many of these children don’t even appreciate the taste of “real” food, due to the fact of being conditioned to processed “chicken” nuggets and “french fries,” or so they are called.
So here is my challenge to all of us! Let’s try to do better. If we all work together to make small changes, we can have a significant impact. If not for yourself, maybe you can do it for your children or grandchildren.
